I am home

Master Year 1 (2024)
Graphic/ Newspaper

A home is more than just a place to live. It holds memories, showcases the things we love, and reminds us of who we want to become. In this way, a home reflects who we were, who we are, and who we hope to be—it becomes a form of self-expression.
For international students like myself, creating a temporary living space that feels comfortable and safe often requires creativity and intention, especially when working with limited belongings. In this project, I focused on "decoration"—an aspect of the home where individuality is often most visible.
I illustrated how six international students studying in Glasgow decorate their rooms, and explored the personal memories and meanings behind their chosen objects. The outcomes of this project include a series of posters and a newspaper, both featuring these illustrations. The newspaper, in particular, was designed as a free publication to inspire other students in their own room-making processes.
Recognizing that many students live in temporary housing, I paid special attention to the material of the newspaper itself. Inspired by the way newspapers are often reused as packing material during moves, I chose it as a symbol of transience and support—something practical, yet meaningful. Through this, I hoped to create a publication that offers both inspiration and a sense of connection, seamlessly integrating into the daily lives of its readers.
